AT HOME SERVICES
Speech-Language Pathology (SLP), or Speech therapy(ST), assists individuals with language, communication, swallowing, and cognition and aims to prevent, diagnose and treat any or a combination of deficits in these areas.
During your first visit with a Speech therapist, you will discuss your conditions and their impact on your ability to express yourself, cognitive difficulty, and Swallowing difficulty. Your Speech therapist will perform a series of assessments to help understand the severity of communication, cognitive, and Swallowing Difficulties. Then, in collaboration with your therapist, you will devise a treatment plan for your goals.
The typical treatment involves developing your skills by providing problem-solving, memory, and organization strategies to improve cognitive communication. In addition, your treatment may include retraining the swallowing function if you have swallowing difficulty.
Medical conditions with underlying communication, cognitive, and swallowing difficulties include developmental delay, Stroke, and Neurodegenerative diseases such as Dementia, Parkinson’s Disease, and Multiple sclerosis but are not limited to these conditions.
