The benefits may be enhanced by direct contact, however, you would disrobe in the room by yourself and the therapist does not enter until you are on the table covered with a sheet and blanket. Then she would uncover only the part she is working on, such as an arm or leg. Whether you remove your undergarments is up to your comfort level. If you prefer to leave them on, that is fine.

It is important that you let the therapist know if you feel the pressure is at your comfort level. It should not be painful, but you will likely notice some sore areas you didn't know you had. You should also share if there are specific areas you want to the therapist to avoid.

To get the full benefits of the massage, it's helpful if you don't do anything strenuous for a while afterward, and please don't smoke for at least 30 min. It's also important to drink extra water after a massage. A couple of glasses is a good idea to help flush out any toxins that may have been released from your tissues. Sometimes there is a little soreness for a day or two after the massage if deeper work was performed.

Once a month is generally a good schedule, but if you have specific areas that are causing you pain you may need more frequent sessions for a while to help resolve the issue.
